Fantastical, funny and darkly mysterious, playwright Russell Davis' Cecilia's Last Tea Party is a vivid coming of age drama in which actors and puppets share the stage to tell this story of political and social upheaval. On a small island nation in the midst of an ominous upheaval, Cecilia, the child of a native princess and a Western colonial governor, builds a fantasy world with her animal companions.. The trio regularly sits down for tea and lessons on civilized behavior, but their insular world is broken by the island's new commanding officer, Billy Krakatoa, and Aunt Tambora, who has come to stay after the disappearance of Cecilia's mother. Cecilia's extraordinary nocturnal adventures offer an escape from an increasingly threatening environment, but will they help her move towards the life expected of her now? Cecilia's Last Tea Party is a play with puppets suitable for all ages—a vivid coming of age drama amidst a time of dramatic change. |
